Kotobukiya's Hoihoi-san, which pioneered the bizarre genre of 1:1 scale girlpla robot injection kits, must have sold well, because follow-up products keep coming out one after another. The anime itself is very short and pretty bare-bones, so it's not really the kind of series you'd expect a string of products from.. but the kits themselves seem to be winning fans thanks to their unique charm.

The second Hoihoi-san release is the Heavy Arms version, with the monochrome outfit color swapped out for a bright combination of orange and white. The weapons have also been changed from the original broom, submachine gun, and katana to a machine gun, hammer, and sake bottle, and 2 additional face expression parts and a ponytail part have been added — all for a price increase of ¥800. Overall the added content feels quite generous, and honestly ¥800 seems like a modest increase.

The volume of the newly added ponytail is really impressive, and the open-mouthed smiling expression and the furrowed-brow pouty face both came out absolutely adorable. The machine gun and hammer are fairly standard, but the sake bottle — pulled off nicely in clear green parts — looks surprisingly realistic. Slap on the included waterslide decals and it genuinely looks like a miniature sake bottle.

I was a bit worried about balancing with such a large machine gun, but once I actually stood it up, the grip was solid and the joints were generally tight enough to hold poses without much trouble. The range of motion is a bit limited for pulling off a wide variety of poses with the machine gun, but at least it holds steady once you get it there — that's a plus.

With its vibrant colors, cute facial expressions, and generous accessories, this is a variation that has a lot going for it compared to the original normal version, and the Heavy Arms version honestly feels like the better value of the two. Overall quality is satisfying, so if you're looking to try something a little different, go ahead and grab one with confidence. :-)
