Hoihoi-san : Change of Coustume

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is called the Hoihoi-san "Change of Costume" set — and true to its name, it lets you choose between 2 different costumes during assembly. Think of it kind of like dressing up a doll. ^^;

You can swap between two looks: a gym uniform version and a swimsuit version. Unlike the original Hoihoi-san, this one comes with twin braids and a much larger ribbon on the head. It's definitely got that extra lolita-complex vibe going on. ;

The costume change works by swapping out the entire torso section — including the shoulders and hip joints — along with the feet. In the gym uniform version, the red wristbands are also included as part of the swap. The head, forearm, and leg skeleton parts are shared between both versions. Since the skirt has been removed, articulation is significantly better than the standard Hoihoi-san, and 3 new weapons are included.

True to the Hoihoi-san series concept, this is fundamentally a kit that goes for "cuteness," and it delivers a pretty and solid quality without any real issues. The costume-swapping feature can feel a bit fiddly at times, but there's a fun doll-dressing element to it. Personally, I think the gym uniform version is a bit more colorful and prettier than the swimsuit version.

If you're into cute little girl robot characters, this seems like a kit that's well worth building. :-)
