Pest-X-san[Byakuya] & Oboro-Eiga DX set

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is a combined color variant of the existing Pest-X-san and Oboro-Eiga, featuring a premium Pest-X-san with lighter hair color and pearl molding, plus a red-molded Oboro-Eiga. On top of the molded color changes, various accessories corresponding to feet and a bazooka for the robot transformation have also been added.

First off, the pearl molding on Pest-X-san looks absolutely fantastic — it gives off this limited-edition kind of vibe. The lighter hair and shoe colors also brighten up the overall look, and Pest-X-san, who used to have a somewhat dark and gloomy image, suddenly feels a lot more cheerful ^^ As for the Oboro-Eiga DX, the deeper color combined with all the extra weapon accessories piled on gives it a satisfyingly hefty feel.

Seeing Pest-X-san riding on top of the motorcycle-mode Oboro-Eiga is fun in itself, but the real highlight of this kit is that it now supports a full robot-mode combination transformation. As you can see in the photos, the form where the Oboro-Eiga is transformed into leg shapes with Pest-X-san placed on top is already pretty unique — but it seems like the true final form of this kit is the full robot configuration using two Oboro-Eigas as arms and legs.

Since this kit only includes one Oboro-Eiga, you do end up needing an extra one — which is a bit of a problem.. But once you put two Oboro-Eigas together in robot form, it genuinely looks amazing. And then adding the pearl-molded Pest-X-san on top makes it even better! The whole concept of two motorcycles combining and transforming while a girlpla figure rides them is a really fun and creative idea.

That said.. combining the two Oboro-Eigas is no easy task — the slightest nudge throws off the balance and the whole thing comes crashing down T_T I ended up wrestling with it for quite a while, and eventually had to reinforce a few spots with double-sided tape and a bit of glue just to get it standing. Without that kind of reinforcement, it's just too big and heavy to support Pest-X-san on top.. The joint strength and locking mechanisms aren't tight enough either, which makes it even harder. But once you finally get it fully assembled in robot mode, the sense of accomplishment hits you like a wave ^^;

Being a combined set of two kits, the price isn't cheap.. and on top of that, you need to buy an additional Oboro-Eiga to achieve the robot mode, which brings the total cost up to a whopping 10,000 yen — making it quite an expensive piece. That said, the uniqueness of what you can create more than justifies the price tag, and depending on how much you love the concept, it could very well be a worthwhile investment. There are plenty of hurdles to clear when it comes to completing the robot form, but the unique style it delivers is a kind of satisfaction you just can't get from any other kit — it's a fun one. :-)
