Kotobukiya Linebarrel

Linebarrel Overdrive

Kit Review

Straight build

The Linebarrel Overdrive version has been released with expanded parts throughout. Compared to the standard version, the differences are: expanded shoulder/forearm armor, the stabilizers are in an open deployed form, and the Executor weapon has been added. Thanks to these additional parts, the price has gone up ¥700 from ¥3800 to ¥4500.

For starters, all the parts from the original standard Linebarrel are included, so you can choose to build either the standard or Overdrive version — though there's really no reason to buy the Overdrive just to build it in standard form.. ;;

The expanded units are definitely a step up in presence compared to the standard version, and the stabilizers in particular, spread out wildly like a nine-tailed fox, give it quite a flashy look. The core body itself shares the same traits as the original standard version — great articulation, great color separation, and solid joint strength — so it feels really satisfying when you strike action poses.

The one thing that bugs me is the color separation on the added Executor weapon is just plain terrible.. But regardless, it's definitely got better display impact than the standard version overall.

If you're a fan of Linebarrel and love flashy mecha, this is a great kit worth building without any worries about quality. That said, as with all Kotobukiya kits.. it does take a certain amount of courage to shell out ¥4500 for a small kit that's only 1/144 scale ^^;
