Kotobukiya Arca Nadea

Lumitea

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is Lumitea, released as part of Kotobukiya's new original lineup, the Arca Nadia series. Arca Nadia has its own original world-building created specifically for plastic models, similar to Sōsai Teien Shōjo — but this time around, rather than a school setting, it's more of an SF fantasy world with game-like elements mixed in.

At its core, it follows the typical Kotobukiya girlpla concept, and can be built in either normal mode — which is the base body mode — or Wrise mode, which is the armed mode. The locations and methods for swapping parts feel pretty similar to existing Frame Arms Girl/Megami Device kits.

Lumitea's biggest strength is its beautiful molded color and overall visuals. It'd look even better with a paint job, but even as a straight build the white molded color looks really nice. The wings in particular have great color and a strong sense of depth, giving it a presence that sets it apart from Bandai kits. In Wrise mode you can also layer clear parts one by one on the inside of the skirt to create a really flashy look — visually, this kit seems like it'd be hard for anyone to dislike. As for weapons, only a sword and scabbard are included, so the accessories do feel a bit sparse. That said, you can mix and match the head decorations, forearms, wrists, and back parts in different combinations, and there's an articulated dedicated stand included that's really handy for posing.

Overall articulation and joint strength are relatively solid, and the large wings in particular hold their position really well no matter what angle you bend them to. Some inner skirt parts and a few other parts do pop off during posing, but you can just glue those down, so it's not really a big deal.

There was also a serious hip joint defect issue at the time of the first-run release. The hip joint connection parts were poorly made and the legs would pop off with even the slightest movement — but Kotobukiya's distributor did offer a service where you could request replacement with improved parts. I personally received a defective first-run unit and was pretty devastated, but got it sorted out through the replacement service. Thankfully the improved parts hold up solidly, and I've heard that all units produced since then come with the improved parts, so keep that in mind.

Anyway, in terms of looks, proportions, and just about everything else, this is a top-tier girlpla — it's a fantastic kit that really shows you why Kotobukiya is the undisputed king of girlplas. :-)
