DOG00-M Cyan Dog

Kit Review

Straight build

The Cyan Dog has been released as the 5th kit in the Medabots series, which is barely known at all domestically. The overall contents aren't drastically different, but the design concept is fresh, and it does feel quite distinct from its predecessors.

First off, even as a straight build it recreates about 90% of the original look — though it's a bit of a shame that the yellow stripe on the forearm is missing. That could've easily been handled with some partial painting or a sticker, so it's a little odd that they painted the yellow on the head but left out the yellow stripe on the forearm.;;

Basic articulation is better than previous kits, but the polycaps at each joint are ball-joint type and tend to pop out easily, making it an awkward kit to pose. Every time you try to get it into a position, the arms and legs keep falling off and you have to keep plugging them back in..T_T

For special accessories, you get the ability to spread the shoulders and mount the linear cannon, plus a missile launch gimmick and effect parts on the forearm. The missile can be fired using a spring, and it actually flies off pretty snappily — better than you'd expect ^^ On top of that, the series-signature speech bubble set and visor-swapping feature are included as well.

Overall build quality isn't all that great, but then again this is a kit made for people who loved the Medabots game or anime, so it's really only going to mean something to those with fond memories of Medabots. :-)
