SOL Raptor

Kit Review

Straight build

The SOL Raptor has been released as the 9th Megami Device kit. Like the previously released SOL Hornet, it's based on a fighter jet concept, but it comes loaded with much larger wings than the Hornet, giving it a really lavish look.

The basic build approach is the same as previous kits, but it comes with very long, flowing hair that adds a lot of dynamism to poses. The weapons that attach to the base body are also nice and chunky, giving it great volume. That said, with so much stuff hanging off it, articulation is pretty limited and getting good poses can be tricky... Joint strength is stiff throughout so stability isn't an issue, but there are quite a few parts that pop off when you force those stiff joints to move, which gets a bit annoying.

As a bonus feature, you can remove some of the head, waist, and chest armor to assemble an owl-shaped accessory, and the smaller weapons can be combined to create a beam gun and beam blade. There's also a stand included — and given how much is attached and how back-heavy the kit is, it's pretty much impossible to stand upright without it.

The added complexity and flashiness is a nice touch, but personally I can't help feeling the armor is a bit excessive. The molded colors are also quite bright, which can make it look a bit washed out, and honestly the base body on its own looks prettier and is much easier to handle.

Anyway, it's a bit cumbersome with everything attached, but the overall quality is solid — if the style appeals to you, this seems like a pretty fun girlpla to enjoy. :-)
