Sitara Kaneshiya Ver.Ganesa

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is Sitara Kaneshiya Ver.Ganesa, released as a collaboration series between the mobile game Alice Gear Aegis and Megami Device. It's based on the previously released Sitara Kaneshiya Ver.Kalbachot body, with the Ganesa Unit added on top — and it comes with a pretty brutal PG-level price tag of ¥14,800.

For the price, the box feels relatively modest — it's about the size of a large box you'd typically see with ¥6,000–8,000 kits. That said, the runners are packed in tight, so it's surprisingly heavy for its size, and instead of opening from the top, it slides out from the side like a drawer. The Ganesa Unit and additional weapons and armaments — excluding the Sitara Kaneshiya body — are also sold separately under the name "Gear Unit Ver.Ganesa" for ¥10,800. So if you already have Sitara Kaneshiya Ver.Kalbachot, you can just pick up the Ganesa Unit separately and save yourself ¥4,000.

"Ganesa" is the elephant-headed deity from Hindu mythology, and the Ganesa Unit has a very mechanical take on the giant elephant ears and legs. It consists of a Top Gear housing the power arms, and four Bottoms Gears representing the front and hind legs, each with their own articulation features. Of these, two smaller Bottoms Gears become Sitara Kaneshiya's legs, while the remaining four units attach to the large dedicated stand.

Given the sheer size, you might worry about stability — but thankfully the special stand's locking sections are well-designed and provide a decent amount of security. The back Bottoms Unit is so large and heavy, though, that if you don't push the peg in all the way, it can slowly droop downward over time. (For reference, if something feels loose, it's likely because the peg and socket have spread apart slightly during posing. Pushing the peg in firmly all the way usually fixes it.)

New weapons include a new Cross Gear and Short Gear, with the Cross Gear boasting an impressive length of 30cm. The bottom of the Short Gear features an opening gimmick, and you can recreate firing poses using the included effect parts. On top of that, two types of fans, a new SP Gear, and a cute little Sitara-chan figure are also included. A new set of hands has been added as well — they have a round hole in the palm that lets you grip the Cross Gear and Short Gear securely, so there's no need to worry about dropping those big weapons at all.

In addition to these new weapons and accessories, the Ganesa Unit also includes newly sculpted parts for the main body, Sitara Kaneshiya — specifically shoulder parts with slightly improved articulation and connection, and slimmer-shaped feet. As you can see in the comparison photos, there's not much visible difference from the original body at a glance, and honestly, even after building it yourself... it still doesn't look all that different. (lol) It kind of feels like the developer's personal preferences showing through.

As befitting a large-scale kit, assembly takes quite a while, and the finished size and weight are substantial. Thankfully, a good amount of care went into the stability of the stand and sub-arms, so the body and Ganesa units hold together more solidly than you'd expect — I never once had any trouble with things holding their position throughout all the action pose shots above. In particular, spreading open the Top Gear's power arms makes for some incredibly dynamic poses, and once you bring that 30cm Cross Gear into the mix, it's just pure. overwhelming. presence.

Anyway, even before release this kit was generating buzz as the "Dendrobium of girl-pla," thanks to its resemblance to the GP03 Dendrobium — and it really does feel like an all-time greatest girl-pla has been born. The price, the volume, the sheer presence — it's on a completely different level from any other girl-pla out there, and personally, everything about it wins me over except the price tag. The durability, which was my biggest concern with a large-scale kit, passes with flying colors! It's big, flashy, packed with articulation gimmicks, and rock-solid to boot — posing it is an absolute blast. Sure, it sold out almost immediately upon release, which makes it pretty hard to get your hands on, but for fans of girl-pla, this feels like the ultimate endgame kit that you'll want to build someday. :-)
