Kotobukiya Megami Device

Mutsumi Koashi

Kit Review

Straight build

Mutsumi Koashi has been released as part of the Megami Device "Alice Gear Aegis" lineup. The basic format is similar to previous kits, with the ability to swap between body mode and armed mode. She's a new character with newly designed gear and weapons.

The structural features are similar to previous kits, and overall it shows decent articulation and joint strength. However, the Bottoms Gear that attaches to the legs is quite heavy, making it difficult to hold the hip joints up high. Aside from that, pose stability is good and this isn't a particularly tricky kit to pose.

The Tops Gear on the back can be repositioned to face forward using the support parts, and the included effect parts can be applied as well. Inside the hammer-shaped Cross Gear there's a spring, so if you press the tip of the hammer and let go, it springs back out with a satisfying pop — a fun little gimmick. On top of that, the Short Gear has excellent color separation so it looks really sharp, and dedicated hands are included separately for both the Short Gear and Cross Gear, meaning weapon grip is very secure.

That said, getting a good angle with the included stand is a bit of a hassle — you have to tilt the stand arm as far forward as possible to get the body standing upright. It seems like a structural limitation that can't really be helped, but compared to other kits the stand setup is a bit awkward, which is a shame.

All in all, this kit is meaningful simply for bringing a new Alice Gear Aegis character design to plastic model form, and if you like the look of her, it seems like a fun Gunpla to enjoy. :-)
