Kotobukiya Megalomaria

Necro Face

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the Necro Face released as part of Kotobukiya's Megalomaria series. Megalomaria Principalserves as the base for this female mech variation. This time it comes with a Grim Reaper concept, and the sub-arms on the back take on a form reminiscent of Doctor Octopus, the Spider-Man villain.

The base body characteristics are the same as Principal, so it's still an action figure model kit with outstanding articulation. That said, the small high-heel style feet make it harder to pose on the ground, and the increased armaments mean you really need to keep the center of gravity in check. This is largely due to the four prosthetic limbs added to the back and the six skirt sections. These can be flexibly posed in various directions which is fun for adding dynamism, but with so many moving parts, it does take quite a bit of fiddling.

With all these moving parts and accessories added, the joint strength that was more than sufficient at the base body level now feels a little shaky. It's not quite loose, but it feels slightly underpowered for holding up all the extra armaments. As for weapons, the Curse Reaper (Grim Reaper's scythe) — also sold separately — is included, and you can swap out the blade part to configure it as a Magic Staff (magic wand).

Overall, it's a kit that pulls off the Grim Reaper variation quite nicely. The increased armaments do mean it takes more effort to work with, but if you're a fan of the Megalomaria series and its top-tier articulation, this should be a pretty enjoyable kit. :-)
