EF-2000 Typhoon Wilfried Ver.

Kit Review

Straight build

The Wilfried von Eichberger Ver. was released as a color variant of the Typhoon Cerberus Battalion Spec. The original light gray molded color has been changed to a two-tone dark brown — though calling it "two-tone" might be a stretch, since you really have to look closely to spot the difference between the two shades.

And it's not just a simple molded color swap either — the Mk-57 Heavy Ground Support Cannon included with the Cerberus Battalion Spec has been dropped, and in its place a massive sword-type weapon, the BWS-3 Fort Slayer, has been added. The Fort Slayer is large and has solid detailing, which gives this kit a nice bit of its own personality.

The base body is 100% identical aside from the molded color, so there's not a whole lot of new ground to cover — and just like the original Typhoon, joint strength is still a bit of a concern. The arms and knees are nice and solid, but the hip joints feel slightly iffy, and the waist and ankle joints are honestly pretty loose. Thankfully, as long as you're careful with those weaker joints, posing isn't too difficult — but the floppy ankles do make it a lot easier to pose on a stand. (That said, this kit doesn't include a first-run limited stand even in the first release, so you'll need to use an existing Kotobukiya stand.)

The deeper color scheme gives it a stronger, more imposing feel, which is a plus — but the darker tone does make the details harder to see, which is just the nature of the beast with dark-colored kits. Personally, if I had to choose between the lighter Cerberus Battalion Spec and the darker Wilfried Ver., I'd lean toward the Cerberus Battalion Spec since the brighter color really lets the panel edges pop. ^^ That said, if you're a fan of Wilfried from the original series, this kit will definitely mean a lot more to you. :-)
