Kotobukiya Muv-Luv

F-22A Raptor

Kit Review

Straight build

This is the non-scale Muv-Luv F-22 Raptor: Alfred Walken G. It's 99% identical in composition to the previously released Raptor Pre-Production Type - Infinities version kit, and is essentially a color variant with a brighter molded color combination. The one and only change is a single head part that's been swapped out, making the antenna on the back of the head smaller.

Personally, I think the Raptor has a more refined design than the Takemikazuchi or Shiranui, but the original Infinities version was such a dark color scheme that the details and lines were hard to make out, which was a bit of a shame. This new Alfred Walken G, on the other hand, has a much brighter color combo with better contrast, so it looks even more impressive.

Being a recent Muv-Luv kit, the articulation is excellent and the joint strength is solid, making it a fun kit to pose. That said, there are quite a few parts where the snap-fit is unreliable, so be aware that a lot of parts will come apart during posing unless you glue a good portion of them — keep that in mind during assembly.

Anyway, it's a simple color variant kit, but it brings out the design better than the original with cleaner, more contrasted colors, so if you're interested in the Raptor, this is a much easier recommendation than the Infinities version. Unless you're a pretty dedicated Muv-Luv fan, it's probably not going to spark a strong urge to buy — but among Kotobukiya kits, this one is definitely up there in the upper tier. :-)
