Following the Muv-Luv non-scale Mig-21 Balalaika - Theodor kt, which wowed everyone with its groundbreaking articulation and quality, the variation kit Mig-21 Balalaika - Irisdina Bernhard kt has now been released.
As you can see in the review photos above, everything except the head is completely identical in structure to the Theodor kt, and even the molded colors are 100% the same. Standing these two kits side by side, they look like twins and it's hard to tell them apart — but a quick way to distinguish them is that if the head antenna points forward, it's the Theodor kt, and if it points backward, it's the Irisdina Bernhard kt. Since everything except the head is identical, for more details on this kit, please refer to the Non-scale Mig-21 Balalaika - Theodor kt reviewfor more information.
The original kit, the Theodor kt, was such an outstanding kit with its best-ever articulation and rock-solid joint strength that it could give Bandai a slap in the face. This kit carries on that same quality, so it's safe to say it's still the ultimate action figure in the Kotobukiya lineup. The hips, knees, and ankles all show an incredible range of motion, and the joints are sturdy enough that no matter what pose you put it in, it feels stable.
In the end, since the Theodor kt and the Irisdina Bernhard kt feel almost identical with no difference in molded colors, if you haven't built either of these yet, just pick whichever character you prefer. The fit is still a bit stiff, as you'd expect from a Kotobukiya kit, but it's a great kit that any mecha model fan should experience at least once. :-)
