Shiranui Second : Tarisa Manadal's

Kit Review

Straight build

As the fourth kit in the Muv-Luv series, the Shiranui Second : Tarisa Manadal's has been released. Compared to its predecessor, the Shiranui Second Demonstration Color, it's a 100% identical kit in terms of structure — only the molded colors differ. Since it's a straight color variant, for a more detailed look at the structural features, please refer to the Shiranui Second - Demonstration Color Review.

The structure is the same as the existing Shiranui, but I suspect the polycap section on this Tarisa unit has been revised compared to the previous Muv-Luv kits. The earlier Takemikazuchi/Shiranui kits had good structure overall, but joint strength was generally a bit lacking — on this Shiranui Tarisa unit, the joint strength has clearly improved across the board. In particular, these kits have always had trouble standing upright due to the small feet relative to the bulky upper body, and that stability has gotten noticeably better here. It looks like the polycap molds were revised taking previous complaints into account, and I understand the same improvements will be applied to reprints of the other Muv-Luv series kits as well.

Just like the previous releases, the Muv-Luv series' generous weapon accessories are still all here, letting you pull off action poses with all kinds of weapon combinations and configurations — and with the improved joint strength, posing has become a lot easier too.

Looking purely at the molded colors, I personally think the Demonstration Color with its strong light-and-dark contrast is a bit nicer, but the white-and-blue combination on the Tarisa unit isn't bad either. The molded color finish isn't exactly premium, but it's not bad enough to have visible swirl marks either, so it's decent enough.

The Muv-Luv series kits have a huge part count, so the assembly process itself can be quite a slog — but once finished, you definitely get a sense of complex, intricate volume that's quite different from Bandai kits. If you like the design, I think it's a kit you can sit back and enjoy building at your own pace. That said, the need to apply glue here and there is still very much a thing :-)
