Kotobukiya Muv-Luv 1/144

Takemikduchi : Takamura Yui ki

Kit Review

Straight build

It seems Kotobukiya did pretty well with the Muv-Luv injection-molded series, because in addition to the existing non-scale line, they've now launched a new 1/144 lineup. The first entry is the yellow Takemikduchi : Takamura Yui ki.

Being a smaller scale, the part count is low and the kit is split up nicely for easy assembly — it goes together really smoothly. The existing non-scale series had that signature Kotobukiya level of assembly difficulty, but the 1/144 feels much lighter and more straightforward, almost refreshing. ^^

And despite the small size, most of the purple clear parts are well separated, and while there are a few spots where the color separation falls short, it's pretty impressive for a 1/144 scale kit. The articulation holds its own against the non-scale too — it feels compact and solid, so the joints move easily and have great joint strength, giving it excellent stability. ^^

And while it doesn't come with the insane weapon accessories of the non-scale Takemikduchi, it does include one set of basic weapons. Interestingly, it comes with a BETA Intercept-class arm figure, and apparently the upcoming 1/144 Muv-Luv series kits will each include different body section parts. Looks like you'll probably need around four kits to assemble one complete individual.

Anyway, it's a small but packed little kit, and for a Kotobukiya kit it has a neatness that rivals Bandai. Maybe it's because the joint strength is more stable than the non-scale, but the proportions feel solid too, and poses hold well after posing — it's an impressive kit in a lot of ways. :-) If you've been feeling a little worn out by the existing non-scale Muv-Luv series, I'd definitely recommend giving this 1/144 a try. ^^ It's a completely different experience~
