When it comes to color variants, it's gotta be the Muv-Luv series! (^^;) Following the 1/144 Shiranui Second Yuya Bridges Ki, the 1/144 Tarisa — and now the Tarisa Manadal Ki — have been released one after another. It's a 100% color variant kit true to the source material, so there are no new parts whatsoever, but the color scheme is quite different, making it a pretty distinctive color variant in its own right.
Since nothing has been changed, all the structural characteristics are identical to the previous Yuya Bridges Ki — it's an easy kit to build and handle thanks to its decent articulation, sturdy joints, and small, lightweight body. Just like the Bridges Ki, the shoulder markings are printed on and some partial paint applications are included, so the basics are solid.
Just like the Bridges Ki, the color separation on the knees and binders is a bit lacking compared to the non-scale version, but the Manadal Ki's overall darker color scheme seems to make that less noticeable. There's also a sense of toughness that comes with those deep, heavy colors.
Anyway, it's a straightforward color variant kit without much to explore, but the assembly process is smooth enough that it's well worth building multiple times compared to the non-scale. Again, if you're torn between the non-scale and the 1/144, I'd definitely recommend giving the 1/144 a go first. :-)
