The VOB (Vanguard Overed Boost), a parts set that powers up the flight capabilities of Armored Core NEXT units, has been released. The most iconic image is probably White Glint + VOB from the For Answer opening, but the VOB is fundamentally a universal piece of equipment that can be used with multiple units.

First off, it's a faithful kit that covers the basic VOB configuration, and on its own it's put together nicely enough to give off a bit of a spaceship vibe. The overall molded color is similar to Ogiru and White Glint, though it's a touch more yellowish. A variety of connector parts are included so it can combine with multiple kits.

The VOB on its own is a bit lacking in presence, but it really comes into its own when combined with the NEXT units. To that end, a VOB-dedicated stand is included, and to ensure a solid hold, the duct structure from the VOB's underside has been built directly into the stand itself. In other words, rather than simply placing the unit on the stand, you actually assemble the VOB together with the duct section that's molded as part of the stand — so the stability is extremely solid and well-executed. It holds everything firmly in place not just with the VOB alone, but even when combined with each unit.

The VOB is designed to combine with all of the NEXT units released up to that point — Ariya, Tellus, Ogiru, and White Glint — and thanks to the dedicated parts for each, they all connect firmly and securely. Ariya and Tellus have a fairly noticeable color difference, so they feel a bit mismatched, but Ogiru and White Glint look like they were made for it. White Glint in particular (naturally) has the best compatibility of all, and with the pipes connecting to the many boosters on White Glint's back also included, the rear view is absolutely spectacular. In that sense, the VOB almost feels like it was made exclusively for White Glint.

As an item that upgrades the visual impact of the Armored Core NEXT kits, I think it's an excellent accessory — especially for really showing off White Glint's presence. The molded color isn't anything to write home about, but then again the base kit's molded color isn't great either, so there's not much of a disconnect. Above all, I really appreciate how much thought went into making everything hold together securely.

It's an especially highly recommended item for anyone who's built White Glint — though it's become a bit of a moot point since a White Glint + VOB combo pack was later released. That said, as a display piece, I think it's a genuinely excellent item.
