Noblesse Oblige

Kit Review

Coming soon.

This kit is a version of the existing NEXT Ogiru with laser cannons added — it's a unit with the elegant name "Noblesse Oblige." The main body is 95% identical to the Ogiru, with the differences being:

1. Antennas added to both sides of the head
2. New parts added to the front of the thighs
3. A locking part added to prevent the waist from bending backward
4. An armament part added to the back of the left forearm
5. Two new rifle types changed/added
6. Six laser cannons added to the back

That's about it. Looking at the list it seems like a lot has changed, but in reality, aside from the laser cannons on the back, not much stands out.

Since the base body itself is nearly identical to the Ogiru, the kit's characteristics are similar — but due to the structure added to the thighs, the upward range of motion at the hip joints has been noticeably reduced. It's a bit of a shame, but then again, this is the kind of kit that's meaningful just to have on display.. :-)

Ultimately the highlight of this kit is the laser cannons on the back, and contrary to what I was worried about before release, the mounting points are relatively solid and don't feel loose when moving. They hold their position well in any configuration, and the hinge mechanism for opening and folding is nicely reproduced — but as you can see, the laser cannon section has absolutely zero consideration for color separation. T_T

It might already be something to be grateful for that they added the laser cannons and new rifles on top of the Ogiru for just ¥400 more.. but I can't help feeling a little disappointed that they didn't put as much thought into color separation as they did with the main body. That said, the sheer visual impact is undeniable, so if you can live with the color separation situation, I do think it's a kit well worth picking up. :-)
