Kotobukiya Amored Core Next

04-Alicia White Pearl Ver.

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is a color variant of the previously released Alicia Unsung — the Alicia White Pearl Ver. The overall construction is completely identical, but the base molded color is done in pearl white, giving it a pretty luxurious feel. And perhaps because just changing the molded color felt a bit lazy, the hand and back weapon units have been swapped out for different ones.

Since it's essentially a straight color variant rehash, there's nothing new to discover, but building those distinctive reverse-joint legs from the Unsung is still a fun experience in its own right. It's a kit with a huge part count, so assembly takes quite a long time — which means you get to enjoy that colorful, eye-catching color combination for a good long while ^^;

The arm articulation range is limited and the reverse-joint range of motion is narrower than you'd expect, so pulling off a wide variety of poses isn't really possible — but thanks to its unique style, even a slight angle adjustment gives it a pretty cool look. The newly added back weapons in particular have quite a bit of volume, so when you deploy everything fully, you can get some seriously imposing poses out of it.

Kotobukiya's pearl white molding tends to not show up as well in photos compared to Bandai's, but seeing it in person, even a straight build gives you that marble-like texture quite convincingly. If you're a fan of pearlescent molded kits, this is definitely a fun one worth building at least once. :-)
