Kotobukiya Rock Man

Iris X4 Ver.

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the Iris X4 Ver. released as part of Kotobukiya's Mega Man series. She's the first female character to come out in quite a while, and the basic construction follows the same approach as the previous Mega Man kits. That said, she features the best color separation in the entire series, giving you a really striking straight build right out of the box.

The precise parts breakdown does mean some pieces are quite small — the yellow triangle parts on the knees and front of the ankles being the prime example. They're so tiny that cleaning up the gates is a pain and assembly is tricky, and if you've got aging eyes or large hands, it might stress you out a little. The rest of the parts go together pretty smoothly though, and there's a real satisfaction in finishing such a colorful kit without a single seal.

Articulation and joint strength are both above average, and every pose holds firmly without any looseness. The one thing to keep in mind is that the back of the head is large and heavy, so you'll need to think a bit about the center of gravity. Like previous kits, you get 3 face options and 5 hand types, plus a head cover part for when you remove the hat — but beyond that, there are essentially no accessories. That does leave things feeling a little bare since you're limited to posing the figure on its own.

Still, the main body quality is so good that the sparse lineup is easy to forgive. If the design appeals to you, this is a great character kit I'd recommend without hesitation. :-)
