It's been a while since Kotobukiya released a Rockman kit, and this time we've got Rockman X in 1/12 scale. The previous Rockman kits were 1/10, so while the actual figure is larger, the scale number has gone down a bit. (Released under the name Mega Man X in English-speaking markets.)
The basic setup isn't all that different from previous Rockman kits — it's more of a design and proportion refresh. You get 3 cartoon-style face expressions, the X Buster forearm, and 3 types of hands. What really stands out, though, is the special effect parts included with this kit. By combining multiple clear runners, you can set them up in dash, charge, or impact configurations — quite versatile. It's a premium effect parts setup that honestly feels like it could've been sold separately.
Structurally, the articulation and joint strength are solid enough to pull off a wide range of poses from the game without any fuss. Being the first Rockman kit in a while, the joint strength in particular feels like it's been brought up to modern standards.
One thing worth noting — at ¥6,000, this feels pricey even by Kotobukiya's already-expensive standards. Whether it's the licensing costs or the elaborate effect parts, I'm not entirely sure, but paying twice as much as the 1/10 Rockman kit is a bit hard to wrap my head around. That said, the overall quality is excellent, so if you can get past the value-for-money concern, it's a pretty satisfying kit. :-)
