Kotobukiya Rock Man

Rockman X Zero

Kit Review

Straight build

Following the Kotobukiya Rockman X Max Armor, the 1/12 Rockman X Zero has now been released. The basic construction and joint design are pretty much the same as the Max Armor — it really feels like just the exterior design has changed. It still shows off that flashy color separation and solid articulation.

As for the Z-Saber included as a weapon, you get 4 different beam effect parts, which lets you pull off a nice variety of saber action poses. The signature swappable forearm Buster is also nicely realized with excellent color separation. Beyond that, the 3 face options and 4 hand types feel pretty similar to previous releases.

One thing to note — the overall joint strength isn't bad, but in my case the left ankle ball joint kept popping out. The Hexa Gear Governor series had a similar issue where certain shoulder ball joints would pop out like a luck-of-the-draw situation, and this seems to be the same kind of tolerance control problem. From experience, some ankles will pop out easily and others won't — it's basically the luck of the draw. (Thanks to that, the ankle kept coming off every time I moved it, making posing a real pain T_T)

Aside from that, this is a clean, great-looking kit with nothing much to complain about in terms of assembly — but the ¥6,000 price tag still feels steep for what you get. Then again, this is essentially a kit made as a treat for Rockman X fans, so for some people, just having it exist at all is reason enough to be grateful. :-)
