The second entry in the Ghost in the Shell SAC series is none other than our beloved Tachikoma! Honestly, given how iconic and popular it is, the Tachikoma probably should've been the first one out of the gate. ^^

Even though it's officially 1/35 scale, the kit feels a bit smaller than you'd expect. Then again, the Tachikoma is a compact, cute little multi-legged mech to begin with, so maybe that's just staying true to the concept. Small and adorable as it is, Kotobukiya's signature color separation means the straight build already looks great, and the arm and leg articulation is decent enough to pull off all kinds of cute poses.

The biggest selling point of the Kotobukiya Tachikoma has to be the cockpit opening feature. The hatches that open upward and to both sides are nicely done as working parts, and there's a real satisfaction to opening and closing them. What I especially like is how cleanly the seams line up when it's closed, and the interior detail is well reproduced too.

Feature-wise, you get various parts to recreate the scene from the show where natural oil is injected instead of synthetic oil, plus the option to swap the front barrel for a Gatling gun. A clear stand is also included for when the balance gets thrown off, but the joints are solid and it's pretty easy to balance on its own, so you probably won't need it much.

As a bonus, figures of Kusanagi, Batou, and Miki are included. They'll definitely need painting, but given that Kotobukiya is a respected name in figures, the detail looks pretty solid.

The Tachikoma has been released in all sorts of forms over the years, but this is exactly the kind of mech model that Kotobukiya excels at, and it really shows. If you've been waiting for a proper injection-molded Tachikoma, this is a must-buy!! :-)
