Kotobukiya Super Robot War

Huckebein 009

Kit Review

Straight build

Following the Huckebein, the color variant kit Huckebein 009 has been released.
The blue original Huckebein is equipped with a Black Hole Engine, while the green Huckebein
is set up with a Plasma Generator Engine — and it appears in the GBA Super Robot Wars OG game.

As you can see, it's basically a color variant kit with just the molded colors swapped,
so the fundamental characteristics are the same as the previous blue Huckebein — but since it's a
variation based on the first-edition Huckebein, there are a few shortcomings
compared to the revised edition. The polycap situation isn't hugely different, but the
partial paint applications are where you really notice the gap.. specifically, the
eyes/ears/shoulder ducts/front skirt ducts have all been released without any paint.

In terms of contents, the weapons have been swapped out — the Black Hole Cannon
and stand are gone, replaced by two new weapons: the Photon Rifle and the Magna Beam Rifle.
Two rifle-gripping hands have also been added to go along with them. The weapon
detail is decent enough, but there's absolutely no color separation on them.

The issue is that Huckebein 009 has a bit of a limited-edition character to it compared
to the blue Huckebein, so it hasn't been reprinted as a revised edition.
It's ended up as a rare item stuck in its first-edition, rough-around-the-edges state. Kotobukiya
acted like it was going to be a limited release from the start, then put it in the regular lineup —
honestly not sure what they were thinking.. ^^;

Anyway, since it carries all the flaws of the first-edition Huckebein,
the weak polycaps and joints make it hard to call this a quality kit.
With the partial paint missing too, it ends up looking even more bare.. On the plus side,
the green molded color came out really nicely and rich-looking. Being a rare limited-edition
item is probably its biggest selling point. :-)
