Kotobukiya Super Robot War

Weiβritter

Kit Review

Straight build

The 9th Super Robot Wars kit is the Weiβritter, showing off a gorgeous color scheme. White, blue, and yellow are splashed all over every corner of the body — it's not perfect, but true to Kotobukiya form, it came out looking pretty darn nice.

Build-wise, it's roughly on par with the previous Cybuster in terms of sheer bulk, but the joints are a bit sturdier than the Cybuster's. Despite the slightly chunky design, it holds its poses solidly without falling apart, which is proof that Kotobukiya's joints are getting better and better. The big Oxtun Launcher in particular could've been a problem for grip strength, but the dedicated hand locks onto the launcher snugly, keeping a firm, wobble-free hold. It really feels like Kotobukiya puts more thought into weapon attachment than Bandai does.

That said, with a build like this, articulation isn't exactly great — but the striking colors and imposing frame still let you pull off some decent poses. One thing I still have to point out, though: Kotobukiya kits with this level of color separation feel a bit risky to assemble snap-tight without glue. I built it straight at first, and parts kept popping off every time I touched it, so I ended up going back and applying glue to the key parts. Once the main pieces are properly secured, it becomes a nice, stable kit overall.

If the unique design and pretty impressive color separation appeal to you, this is a solid kit well worth building with no major concerns. :-)
