Kotobukiya's wild antics — always churning out unique kits —
have now reached the point of turning even a "robot horse" into a plastic model!
Dygenguar's companion, the robot known as Auβenseiter, can
transform into Pferd mode — basically, it turns into a horse. And the setup has
Dygenguar riding on top of it.. Honestly, when it transforms into a horse it ends up
being absurdly large compared to Dygenguar's proportions, which is a bit awkward.. but
hey, this is a "super robot," so you can let it slide ^^;
First of all, the Auβenseiter horse version is a truly unique kit —
the parts layout and assembly method feel genuinely fresh and original. The kit itself
is enormous, standing nearly 40cm tall, and the combination of large parts with finely
divided color separation reproduces the design colors almost perfectly. The mane on the
head and tail is rendered in a semi-transparent resin-like material — it's solid all the
way through, so it does feel a bit on the heavy side, but there are no issues with it
staying in place.
Talking about the Auβenseiter horse version's articulation is a bit
tricky.. Joint strength is relatively decent, but the front legs — which have to support
a lot of weight — feel like they could stand to be a bit stiffer. Every now and then,
they can't handle the weight and gradually splay outward like a giraffe drinking water.
This kit includes a full set of the existing non-scale Dygenguar,
along with several additional parts to convert it for riding. Compared to the normal
Dygenguar, an extra waist joint segment has been added, and the back armor was swapped
out to accommodate the cape. On top of that, a part has been added to flip the rear
skirt armor up about 90 degrees for the riding position.
At first glance, securing Dygenguar on top of the horse might look
a bit shaky, but as shown in the photos above, the dual-locking gimmick working in two
different directions holds it quite firmly, so there's nothing to worry about. What's
more of a concern is the cape added to Dygenguar's back — it's also resin-like in
material and quite heavy, which causes the upper body to lean backward and the waist
joint to pop out fairly often. The waist ball joint was actually the one weakness pointed
out even in the normal Dygenguar, and strapping a heavy cape onto the back makes it feel
even more precarious. In my case, I spent quite a while debating whether I should just
glue the waist joint in place..
When you think of Dygenguar Ikki Tousen, the image that comes to
mind is that dynamic Napoleon pose with the front legs rearing up — and a separate stand
is included specifically for that pose. Strike the Napoleon pose and it radiates an energy
that feels like it could leap right out at you. Whatever else you might say, the display
impact alone is absolutely incredible ^^
Given the sheer volume and quantity of parts, the ¥16,800 price tag
is steep, but it feels like you're getting your money's worth. There's a boldness and
uniqueness here that you just can't get from any other kit, and it's a kit where
Kotobukiya's spirit really shines through — making it colorful and impressive enough
straight from a straight build. As long as you keep in mind that there are a few spots
that really need to be glued down, there's nothing major to complain about in terms of
quality.
If you're after something truly unique, this is a kit I'd recommend without hesitation, no questions asked! :-)
