Kotobukiya Super Robot War

Grungust Type-3

Kit Review

Straight build

Following the Grungust Type-0, the Type-3 has now been released. Just like the Type-0, the Type-3 is quite a large kit, and it shows off an incredibly complex and flashy color separation that's every bit as impressive as the Type-0's. As you build it, you'll find color separation in all sorts of places that Bandai would never bother with, and the color scheme itself is even more vivid and eye-catching than the Type-0 — almost to the point of feeling a little over-the-top.

For starters, the sheer size puts it among the largest Super Robot Wars kits out there, with a build that easily dwarfs most MGs. The overall quality is very similar to the Type-0 — it's a high-quality kit with incredible color separation, decent articulation, and surprisingly solid joint strength that you wouldn't expect from Kotobukiya(?).

This kit includes the two Type-3 Zankantou from Dygenguar's kit, runners and all — and as the name suggests, these swords originally belong to the Grungust Type-3. With Dygenguar, the joint strength was a bit shaky when holding that big Zankantou, but the original owner's — the Grungust Type-3's — joints are solid enough to hold any pose without issue.

As you can tell just from the photos without any explanation, this is a great kit with stunning color separation and solid build quality. The color combination is flashy, though... I'd say the Type-0, with its crisp contrast between black and bright colors, has a slightly more composed feel to its design. Either way, even if you've had doubts about Kotobukiya's quality, this is a recommended kit you can dive into without hesitation. :-)
