Kotobukiya Super Robot War

Sladegelmir

Kit Review

Straight build

The Super Robot Wars mecha character that brings a bird to mind — Sladegelmir — has been released. With its beak-like head and all those sharp, pointy body design elements, it's quite a distinctive kit.

True to Kotobukiya form, the fine color separation means it's already plenty colorful straight out of the box, and the overall gimmicks and articulation are decent. Joint strength is a step down compared to the Grungust series, but there's nothing that feels particularly loose overall. Also, just like the Grungust Type-3, it has two massive drills on the back that can be detached and mounted on the hands.

Sladegelmir's Zankantou clocks in at 35cm long, making it an absolutely massive size that puts every other kit's sword to shame. Because of that, action poses using the Zankantou are somewhat limited — no matter how sturdy the arm joints are, you just can't keep the center of gravity balanced, so you're basically stuck dragging it along the ground. And since the sword is so ridiculously long, it's hard to find display space for it, but if you try to have it held upright, it's too tall to fit in most display cases. It's a bit awkward to call these outright flaws, but they're definitely... complications. T_T

Overall it's a kit with very solid design accuracy and color separation, but the design is so unique that opinions are going to be pretty sharply divided. Either way, if you're drawn to unusual designs, it's definitely worth building without too much hesitation.
