Following the standard color green Gespenst Mk-II, the Albero use version has been released. The Gespenst Mk-II actually comes in several color schemes, and the Albero use version sports a dark reddish-brown color that gives off a coffee-like vibe.
First off, the coffee-brown molded color is really excellent — it's easily among the best molded colors Kotobukiya has put out, given how inconsistent their quality can be. It looks much more weighty and clean compared to the standard green version, so even though it's the same kit structure, it somehow feels like a higher-quality product. The body shares all the same features as the standard green version, of course — it's a well-made kit with notably solid joint strength and grip. Articulation is about average, but the great volume and sturdy joints make it easy to pose.
This Albero use version isn't just a simple color variant — the right forearm weapon has been removed and a sizeable new weapon called the F2W Cannon has been added. Despite the addition of quite a large weapon, the price generously stays the same at ¥4500, though as is typical for Kotobukiya kits, the price-to-volume ratio is a bit steep compared to Bandai kits.
One thing to note.. the markings that used to come printed directly on the runners are provided as separate waterslide decals in this kit. It seems like a consideration for the painting crowd, but even for non-painters they're easy enough to apply, so it shouldn't be a problem. That said, the adhesion on the included waterslide decals is on the weak side, so I'd strongly recommend applying a coat or two of Mark Softer or Setter. In my case, I finished the review shoot, let out a sigh of relief thinking I was done, and the breath alone sent the decals flying -.- Well, I ended up scrambling to re-apply them properly with Mark Setter.
Anyway, this is one of the top-tier Super Robot Wars kits in terms of overall quality and molded color, so if you're into that weighty coffee-brown design, it's a solid kit you can pick up without hesitation :-)
