Bylefol

Kit Review

Straight build

Bylefol has been released as a variation of the previous kit, Ialdabaoth.
As you can see from the comparison shots above, it's essentially the same kit as Ialdabaoth with different molded colors — the face, torso, arms, and legs are all identical in structure. The only structural difference is literally just the hairstyle.. but that alone makes such a huge visual impact that at a glance, you'd hardly even realize it's a variation.

Unlike Ialdabaoth with its long blonde hair, Bylefol sports several thick red hair strands. And even though these hair strands are quite chunky.. rather than being hollow inside and split in half like a typical injection-molded part, each strand comes as a single solid piece, like resin. Thanks to that, each strand has a resin-like sense of volume and weight, and the seam lines are kept to a minimum, so the overall look is really quite nice.

That said, since the hair is solid all the way through, the weight of the hair alone is pretty substantial — which makes this kit a bit tricky to get standing upright. At first glance, the weight distribution looks like there's absolutely no way it could stand straight.. but if you get the angle just right, it somehow manages to stay up ;;; Though if it takes any kind of bump, the waist immediately buckles backward and the whole thing goes down..

It's structurally unavoidable, but honestly, the fact that it stands at all is kind of impressive ^^;; Still, the joint strength is decent enough that it can pull it off to this extent. Notably, Ialdabaoth had a tendency for the shoulders to pop off easily, but with Bylefol it seems like they've improved it slightly — the shoulders stay on much better ^^

Those wild hair strands in particular look exactly like squid tentacles at first glance, so I imagine plenty of people will be craving a beer while building this one ㅋ

And since the main body is the same as Ialdabaoth's, aside from a few hand parts, this kit comes with almost no weapons or accessories to speak of. But then again, the design itself is intimidating enough on its own, and with the detailed color separation and partial painting, it's a pretty striking kit even as a straight build..

In the end, yet another bizarre kit has been born into the Super Robot Wars series — and the squid tentacle hair gives it a truly unique building experience. It's definitely a design that'll divide opinions, but if you're into unusual mecha, this one looks like it'd be a pretty fun build. :-)
