Kotobukiya Super Robot War

Non Scale Neo Granzon

Kit Review

Straight build

A new SRW kit comes out about twice a year, and this time it's the Neo Granzon. It's a bigger and chunkier upgrade over the previously released Granzon, and the molded colors have gotten noticeably brighter overall, giving it quite a different feel.

First off, the arms and legs — especially the shoulders — have gotten an enormous volume boost, growing so large they almost look disproportionate. On the back sits a large, round Bariorn Creation Halo, and there are massive claw structures on the sides of the now-thicker legs, plus feet the size of your palm. In just about every way, this is hands-down the chunkiest kit out there.

All that bulk means articulation isn't great, and the poses you can pull off are pretty limited — but thankfully the joint strength is solid enough that it holds its angles without any real issues. The chest's Retraction Cannon section also has a nice gimmick where both covers open left and right, and the three clear yellow parts pop out in a linked motion. Looks pretty cool. ^^

The big selling points of this kit are its large, chunky design and excellent color separation, and honestly outside of those there isn't a whole lot else going on. The sheer size and part count push the price up to a hefty ¥7,300, but true to the latest Kotobukiya kits, the build quality is clean and the snap-fit works well — so it's a satisfying build and looks great when finished. ^^

Anyway, aside from its flashy looks there isn't much else to write home about — but flip that around, and as long as the price isn't a dealbreaker, this is a distinctive kit well worth recommending to mecha model fans. :-)
