This kit is the Ultraman (Shin Ultraman) released by Kotobukiya. It's a plastic model of the Ultraman that appears in Anno Hideaki's 2022 film "Shin Ultraman." Perhaps because it's an Ultraman created by the father of Evangelion, the overall proportions came out slender and Eva-like.

First off, the silver parts come pre-painted in silver, giving the straight build a remarkably elegant look right out of the box. It's a different kind of finish from plated parts, and the red runners also have a surface treatment that gives them an almost hand-painted feel rather than plain molded plastic. That said, given the nature of painted/plated parts, gate marks showing up here and there is pretty much unavoidable.

Above all, the articulation is superior — in terms of range of motion, joint strength, and various other aspects, it really does seem like Kotobukiya has the edge when it comes to figure-type plastic models.

All in all, the Ultraman from Shin Ultraman has come out really well at a high quality level. Even though the gate marks are a bit of an eyesore, the silver paint job makes the overall visual finish more than satisfying. That said, perhaps due to the paint work, it comes in at a steep ¥8,200 relative to what's in the box — it feels like roughly twice the price of a Figure-rise kit. Either way, if you enjoyed Shin Ultraman, this seems like a great kit that's well worth it. :-)
