This kit is a 10/80 (Ten-Eighty) Special based on Temjin — at first glance it looks like a color variant of Temjin, but it's actually a variation with more changes than you'd expect.
The basic skeleton and structure are the same as Temjin, but there are quite a few change points — the head, chest, shoulders, forearms, thighs, knees, ankle guards, and weapons, among others. Most of the changes are in areas where clear parts are located, and the base molded color comes out in a clean coffee-brown tone. In terms of that subtle molded color alone, this might just be the finest of any Kotobukiya kit out there.
Even though there are more changed points compared to Temjin, they're all on the exterior, so the basic structural characteristics are the same as the original Temjin. The excellent articulation and solid joint strength make it easy to pull off action poses, but there aren't all that many poses worth going for — probably because the weapon selection is a bit limited.^^;
The Ten-Eighty Special includes both a clear green runner for 1P and a clear pink runner for 2P, but the molded colors themselves are set up for 1P, so painting is a must if you want to build it as 2P. Since you can't really paint clear parts, it seems like they just threw those in as a bonus. And since a good chunk of the Temjin parts end up unused, the leftover parts from this kit actually outnumber what you'd get from a typical HG Gunpla kit.
When you actually open the box, you'll be genuinely surprised by the sheer number of runners — and then you realize you'll have to toss about a third of them, which does feel a bit wasteful. On top of that, once you're done building, you'll be left scratching your head wondering where all those parts even went — it's a very Kotobukiya thing, where the kit ends up looking almost too small for the amount of runners it came with.
That said, despite adding over 10 extra small runners compared to Temjin, the price is exactly the same — which once again has you shouting, Kotobukiya, you legend!So even with all those leftover parts piling up, it's hard to complain too much. ^^;
Either way, the kit quality itself is quite good, and the unique color scheme gives it plenty of appeal — I'd say it's definitely worth picking up.
