Kit Review

This is the Asra Ninja, released as the 5th entry in Kotobukiya's Megami Device line. Following kits 1/2 and 3/4, each pair of kits continues to evolve around a shared concept — and compared to those first two concepts, this third one feels noticeably more elaborate and flashy.
The basic framework — adding armor over a base body — is the same as previous Megami Device kits, but the various ninja-themed weapons and armor pieces come together to create a really stunning look. Personally, between the color scheme, the design, the face sculpt, and a bunch of other things, I actually find it prettier than its predecessor, the Frame Arms Girl series. The dynamic range of poses you can pull off is especially impressive, even among girlplas.
Articulation is on par with previous kits — plenty flexible — and joint strength is solid with almost nothing to complain about, so whatever pose you put it in, it holds well. Despite all the extra armor, there aren't really any parts that fall off annoyingly, though having so much attached does mean things can get a little in the way when you're posing it. I also appreciate how well the twin tails and the scarf at the back of the neck stay in place — though the ankles, tiny as they are (almost like bound feet), do tend to feel a bit loose.
Weapons include a ninjato, shurikens, kunai stored on the sides of the body, and a katar stored on the forearm. There are holes all over the body, so you've got plenty of options for custom storage. You can still swap between three face types, and true to the ninja concept, one of them is a masked face — a nice unique touch.
Kits 1/2 of the Megami Device line had so many parts to swap around it was almost overwhelming (;;), and kits 3/4 felt like a new take on Frame Arms Girl. But with this 5th entry, the Asra Ninja, it really feels like the line is carving out its own distinct identity. Either way, both the visual quality and the overall kit quality are top-notch — this is a premium girlpla, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who's into this kind of thing. :-)
