Shield Liger Mk-II

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the Shield Liger Mk-II, a variation of the Shield Liger. It keeps the same base body as the original Shield Liger, but the armor molded color has been changed to a white-ish scheme, the tail weaponry has been swapped out, and most notably, it now sports a massive beam cannon on its back.

Since the base body is carried straight over from the Shield Liger, there's not a huge difference there — but the addition of those massive beam cannons gives it a much more powerful, upgraded look. The beam cannons can move in all kinds of ways: spread apart, laid flat, raised upright, you name it. The color separation is pretty solid too, which really adds to the overall quality of the kit. I especially love the ammo belts done in soft plastic — they've got a nice weight to them and the detail is great.

The action poses feel way more dynamic than the standard Shield Liger, thanks to the beam cannons. And it's a relief that the cannons hold their position well no matter what angle or pose you put them in.

Actually, before it came out, word was that it would be a limited release — but when it actually launched, it oddly ended up as a regular numbered lineup kit. It would've been a shame to make it a limited release given how much the beam cannons add ^^; That said, it seems like stock just didn't circulate much, because it's been unusually hard to track down... so honestly, you could argue it might as well be a limited release anyway;

The Shield Liger already required a serious amount of assembly work thanks to all its parts, and naturally the Shield Liger Mk-II is even more so;; The beam cannon alone adds a considerable number of parts, so you'll want to go in mentally prepared — but I think if you do, the end result is something you can feel pretty proud of. :-)
