Kotobukiya Zoid HMM

Gun Sniper

Kit Review

Straight build

A new kit has joined the HMM Zoids lineup — the Gun Sniper. It's a bipedal Zoid like the Geno Saurer, but it's quite compact in size, making it a quick and easy build. It's a pretty different feel from the usual Kotobukiya Zoid kits that are notorious for their massive parts counts.

First off, the molded colors and color separation are solid enough that even a straight build looks really nice. The articulation on the head, tail, front and rear legs is fairly good, and joint strength is decent overall — though the multi-jointed tail section does have a tendency to pop apart. Being a smaller kit, the snap-fit quality is actually quite impressive, and there's no real issue building it without glue, though I'd recommend gluing the key connection points for added durability.

Along with the Booster Scramford on its back, there are six weapon open gimmicks across the body, so despite being a small kit, it can pull off some pretty impressive attack poses. And since it's small and flexible, you can get a good variety of action poses out of it too.

It's a kit that feels quite different from other Zoid kits out there — the biggest selling point is that it's not a burden to build, yet the proportions and colors look great once it's done. Even if you're intimidated by high parts counts, this is a clean, easy Zoid kit that I'd happily recommend to anyone. :-)
