The Red Horn has been released as a brand-new style of Zoid kit.
Based on a mechanized Styracosaurus, the Red Horn sports a more complex and intricate design than any other Zoid, showing off an impressive level of detail and molding.
Compared to the early Shield Liger kit, the overall parts breakdown feels like it's been upgraded to be more efficient, while also delivering even finer detail. That said, the part count is still on the high side, so expect a pretty lengthy build time. Snap-fit assembly has improved a lot, but for some parts it still feels safer to go with glue.
The highlight of this kit is its intricate, complex-feeling detail — though perhaps because of that, the articulation is worse than just about any other kit. With legs that barely bend and a stiff waist, there really aren't many poses you can pull off;; Of course, the sheer intricacy means it still has plenty of presence just standing there, but it's a little disappointing that there aren't poses to really show that off. Also, the body is heavy while the waist ball joints tend to pop out easily, so make sure to always use both hands when picking it up and moving it around.
Maybe it's the good color separation, but this kit looks far more intricate and detailed in person than in photos — it's a kit that gives up posability in exchange for delivering real satisfaction from the finished build itself. If you're into this kind of detailed mechanical design, this is definitely a quality kit worth recommending :-)
