Saber Tiger Gold

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the Saber Tiger Gold, a distribution-limited release from Irisawa. It's essentially the existing Great Saviour kit with just the molded color changed — and befitting a royal unit piloted by Emperor Rudolf, it's a luxurious Zoid finished in a gold coating.

The gold coating has a semi-gloss finish reminiscent of the Extra finish style — it's not as blindingly shiny as the pure gold coating on the Club MG Nu Gundam, but it still delivers a very premium look. If the original Great Saviour had a deep, weighty feel to its colors, the Saber Tiger Gold goes in the opposite direction with a flashy, bright vibe.

As you'd expect from a plated version, the armor panels seem to sit more securely overall, which gives the joint strength a noticeably better feel too — that added stability is definitely a plus. In a lot of ways, it shares a similar concept and approach to the Blade Liger Mirage, which was also an Irisawa distribution-limited release. ^^ If you're purely after that clean, crisp look, the Blade Liger Mirage might edge it out slightly — but the sheer power of gold is real, and the Saber Tiger Gold wins on pure flashiness. The part count and assembly workload feel about on par with each other.

Unlike other limited releases, distribution-limited kits are relatively easy to get hold of during their initial release window... but since they don't get reprinted, if you're interested I'd strongly recommend grabbing one while you still can. :-)
