Dark Horn

Kit Review

Straight build

The Dark Horn has been released as a variation of the Red Horn.
As the name suggests, it's essentially a color variant kit with the same body,
but the color scheme is dramatically different and the weapons on the back are
much more loaded up, so it almost feels like a brand-new kit.

The red body armor has been changed to black, and notably,
the parts that make up the inner frame at the joints are molded in a fluorescent-ish
green, giving it a really unique look. The contrast against the black armor makes
the color pop even more — the molded color is so nice that it's actually a shame
most of it ends up hidden under the armor. T_T

The Red Horn only had a triple-barrel linear cannon on its back, but
the Dark Horn adds a hybrid vulcan, a Mad Thunder, and a 6-barrel beam gatling gun
on top of that. Thanks to all that, the back is absolutely packed and loaded,
and the overall sculpt and volume are really impressive.

That said, just like the Red Horn, the range of motion in the legs and waist
is pretty limited, so the poses you can pull off are quite restricted. And on top of that,
the waist ball joint pops out just as easily. T_T It feels like a kit where you should
focus more on appreciating the sculpt as-is rather than trying to pose it.

If you're someone who prefers intricate and complex kits over articulation,
this one will definitely satisfy — in terms of sheer complexity and detail,
it's among the top-tier kits in Kotobukiya's Zoids lineup. It does take quite a while
to build because of that, but the sense of accomplishment when you finally finish it
is equally rewarding. :-)
