Kit Review

Following the Liger Zero Schneider, the Liger Zero Jager has also been released as a combo pack. Just like the previous Liger Zero Schneider combo, this kit bundles the Jager pack together with the Liger Zero base body — and for a combo kit, there are surprisingly few leftover parts.
The overall volume is beefier than the original Liger Zero base body, though it feels a bit more streamlined compared to the Liger Zero Schneider. At least the armor fits snugly against the body without looking like it was forced on. ^^ The color scheme — a combination of blue and sky blue — gives it a cool, refreshing feel, and the molded colors are among the better ones in the Kotobukiya lineup.
The base body is the same as the Liger Zero, but with the added armor the articulation feels slightly more restricted — though it's still more than enough to pull off a good variety of poses. In particular, spreading out the large and small wings unique to the Jager pack creates quite an impressive, dynamic look. ^^ The ion Booster added to the back also features a linked gimmick: open the cover upward and the three internal ducts automatically fan open — and close back up again.
It is a bit small for the ¥7000 price tag, but that's just the nature of the HMM Zoids series as a whole, so there's not much to be done about it. That said, the Liger Zero base body itself is a fairly advanced Zoids kit in terms of engineering, so the build experience isn't bad at all, and the finished look is quite satisfying.
That said, there's one frustrating tradition that carries over from the Liger Zero base body — the tail joint is incredibly weak and always ends up drooping. In the review photos above I barely managed to get it to hold in place for the shots, which is a real shame in a number of ways. Every other joint is reasonably solid and holds up fine, but the tail is always like this~ ;;
More Liger Zero armor pack variants are planned down the line, and I think it's a fun lineup overall — a solid base body paired with distinctive armor sets for each. The value proposition is still a bit iffy, but after quietly battling through all those parts you're not quite sure what they're even for... there's a real satisfaction in seeing such a flashy finished build come together from a straight build alone. :-)
