Kotobukiya Zoid HMM

EZ-034 Geno Breaker Raven Ver.

Kit Review

Straight build

The Geno Breaker — the go-to Zoid kit when you think "big and lots of parts" — has been released in a Raven version. It's a different version, sure, but since most of the molded colors are so similar to the original Geno Breaker, at a glance there's not much to distinguish it.

The differences between the standard Geno Breaker and the Raven version are mainly that the ducts have been changed from black to gold, and the backpack molded color has been shifted to a slightly deeper red. On top of that, some of the joint parts that were added or changed in the Genosaurer Raven Ver. have been carried over to the Geno Breaker Raven Ver. as well. There are also some minor differences like the Zoid Core being swapped out for a curled-up Shadow figure, and a display base for the pilot Raven figure being added.

So there are differences if you look for them, but they're the kind of thing that's hard to really feel in your gut, which makes this kit feel a bit lacking in its own identity.. That said, as a Zoid kit that you build for the sheer satisfaction of something big, complex, and hefty, it's a decent enough kit for fans of that sort of thing — but if you've already built the standard Geno Breaker, there's really not much reason to pick this one up.

Either way, it's 95%+ identical to the existing standard version, so there's not a whole lot of new ground to cover.. but if you're a die-hard Zoid model fan — especially one with a soft spot for Raven — it's a fun build. Just don't expect much in the way of originality. It's a variation kit, plain and simple :-)
