The Psycho Geno Saurer has been released as a variation of the Geno Saurer. As you can see, it's a kit with a pretty pastel-toned color scheme — beyond the molded color change, the head crest design has been redesigned and an illusion projection device has been added to the sides of the legs.
The real appeal of the Psycho Geno Saurer ultimately comes down to its striking molded colors. It shares the same structure, but compared to the dark and brooding normal version, it definitely has a more visually gorgeous feel to it. Maybe that's why — even though it feels like building the same kit twice — there's something about it that leaves you with a strangely greater sense of satisfaction once it's done.
Since the base kit is identical, there's nothing particularly new to note, but as you'd expect from a relatively large Zoid kit, it's got a ton of articulation points and features like the tail duct open gimmick, giving you plenty of fun with all the different poses you can pull off. That said, having so many articulation points does make it a bit tricky to nail down a specific pose — but either way, given the price point, the volume and gimmicks are still pretty impressive.
The newly added illusion projection device on the sides of the legs uses clear parts in multiple colors and looks quite convincing — it's a nice accent beyond just the molded color change. The comb added to the head is, well... probably a love-it-or-hate-it kind of design. On top of that, as befitting a variation release, you also get two Organoid figures and character figures as a bonus.
Anyway, it's a fairly straightforward variation kit, but the color change is so dramatic that it genuinely feels like building a brand new kit. Even if you've already built the original parts-heavy and pricey Geno Saurer, this one is definitely worth revisiting for the fun of it. :-)
