Kotobukiya Zoid HMM

EZ-027 Rev Raptor

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the Rev Raptor, the 51st release in Kotobukiya's Zoids HMM series. It's the first all-new mold kit in four years from the Zoids HMM lineup, which had only been putting out variations since the Storm Sworder back in 2017. Like the Gun Sniper, it's a small bipedal mech, and as the name suggests, its silhouette is based on a raptor.

It does a great job capturing the raptor image most people know from Jurassic Park — the sharp eyes, the jagged teeth, the aggressive front claws, and that small but sleek build are all pulled off convincingly. Being a recent release, the joint strength is solid — if anything, a bit stiff, to the point where posing can feel slightly awkward. But that's still way better than loose joints, and the fact that it holds any pose firmly is definitely a plus.

As bonus gimmicks, you get a cockpit hatch that opens on the head, a removable Zoid Core on the back, and an open gimmick on the rear legs. The two blades on the back called the Counter Sizer can move freely in all directions, and there's also a gimmick that lets you extend their length slightly. All in all, this is a Zoid with the excellent build quality you'd expect from Kotobukiya, and it's a sturdy kit with absolutely no worries about joint issues. If you're a Zoids fan, this is one you can grab without hesitation and not regret it. :-)
