This kit is the Liger Zero X, the 53rd release in Kotobukiya's Zoids HMM series. It's a variation kit based on the Liger Zero from 2010, with new armor added on top. Thanks to the stylish new armor pieces, it has quite a fresh feel to it.
The inner frame is identical to the original Liger Zero, so all the structural features are the same as well. Joint strength is rock-solid — almost stiff, actually — and the part count is pretty substantial. The new X-specific armor is spread across the head, torso, shoulders, and tail. The side deployment gimmick features four Stun Blades, which include a rotating section that spreads forward and backward, plus a slide mechanism to extend their length.
The standout feature has to be the covers mounted on all four shoulders — you can open them up and deploy two Electron Blade heat sink fins on each. The covers even have linked support arms, and the fins hold their position well after deployment, so there's no worry about them drooping down. With all these new open gimmicks and the flashy Stun Blades, you can pull off all kinds of great poses.
It's a stylish-looking Zoids kit for sure, but since it reuses a base body from over ten years ago, don't expect the latest in build quality. The sheer number of parts means you're in for quite a marathon assembly session, and the snap-fit connections are a bit weak, so you'll want to glue the main parts down for a more secure feel. That said, the end result looks fantastic, so if the high part count doesn't scare you off, this is definitely a flashy kit worth taking on. :-)
