When the MG Shin Musha Gundam first came out, a lot of people were disappointed that the gold sections weren't plated.. and sure enough, a special version with gold plating has now been released. But it's not just gold plating slapped on — the molded colors have been changed across the board, and it comes packaged as a version called "Sengoku no Jin" that even includes a fancy background display stand.
First off, the quality of the two runners with gold plating is absolutely outstanding — they genuinely look like they just came fresh out of a jewelry shop. ^_^;
The red molded color has been completely changed from the original bright crimson to a deep, vivid red, and it even has a slight pearl finish that gives it a subtle gloss almost like gloss injection. On top of that, the black exterior armor parts are done in gloss injection, so the whole kit ends up with a noticeably shiny, brilliant look overall.
Due to the nature of indoor review photos taken under artificial lighting, the difference in shine compared to the standard version doesn't come across all that dramatically in pictures....
But in person, the difference is quite significant — it feels much brighter and more vivid compared to the standard version, almost like an MG HD version. The remaining frame and weapon runners are identical to the standard release.
The included stand features a nicely printed background artwork panel, weapon holders, and a nameplate, so the overall display effect is pretty solid. It's nice and all, but I'm a little on the fence about whether it was really necessary to throw all this in and drive the price up.
The overall kit quality, built on the MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079 as its base, is quite satisfying, and the triple combo of gold plating + pearl molding + gloss injection on the armor is a successful upgrade. That said, the price jumping from ¥5,000 to ¥8,000 because of it is a bit of a tough pill to swallow.. I can't help thinking it would've been fine to just drop the stand and sell it for ¥7,000.
Either way, this kit definitely earns its place among those special versions where you can achieve high quality straight out of the box with just a straight build. :-)
