It seems like Bandai has recently taken a liking to white coating finishes, as they keep putting out Titanium Finish versions one after another. And naturally, a Titanium Finish version of the First Gundam 2.0 — the Gundam of all Gundams — has been released under the title of the 30th Anniversary commemoration.
First off, the coating on the white surfaces delivers that marble-like, ultra-smooth finish we've come to expect, and it definitely has a more premium feel than any other coating out there. Since the 2.0 design has more restrained panel lines compared to the MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079 or the 1.5, the smooth plated surfaces are more visible, which really lets the Titanium Finish's signature gloss shine through even more.
The remaining blue and red parts get a standard gloss coating, and the uniformity of the reflected light does seem a bit better than other plated versions — though unfortunately, gate marks are still pretty noticeable across the board.
In the end, it does come out looking more premium than any previous First plated version... but combined with the First 2.0's retro design, it does feel a little awkward, I have to say. How do I put it... it's got a slightly old-fashioned vibe? Then again, the whole concept of the First 2.0 was already meant to evoke the feel of the older kits, so maybe it's perfectly normal that it feels a little dated rather than ultra-sleek...^^;
I always feel this way, but Titanium Finish really doesn't photograph as well as it looks in person. The real thing has a much more premium feel, so keep that in mind. For anyone who's been eyeing a plated First 2.0 that combines the high quality of the First 2.0 with top-tier Titanium Finish, this would make a great gift. At the very least, it's clearly a step above the older First plated versions that had no choice but to go with silver since they couldn't pull off a white coating. :-)
