Quite naturally, the MG GP01FB came out almost immediately after the MG GP01. The FB (Full Burnern) is the GP01 with large verniers added, making it the space-use variant of the original gravity-use GP01. After the hot-headed pilot Kou Uraki took the gravity-use GP01 out into space and got it wrecked, it was reborn as the GP01FB.
Compared to the GP01, the Full Burnern has about 70% of its exterior changed, with the exception of the arms, thighs, leg skeleton, torso skeleton, and head. So when you open the box for this kit, you can really feel how many parts have been added. With a whopping 398 parts, it's a kit that surprisingly takes a long time to build. It actually ranks #1 among MGs for parts count per price! That said, almost all the shoulder/torso/Core Fighter/leg parts used for the GP01 have been removed entirely. So just keep in mind that with this kit alone, swapping between GP01 and GP01FB is completely impossible.
The molded color follows the GP01's slightly jade-tinted color. The color separation is still good, but... seam lines suddenly become glaringly obvious on the added shoulder and foot add-on parts; The GP01 did a really good job of hiding seam lines, so ironically the Full Burnern's extra parts end up hurting its image a little..
The proportions feel a bit different from the GP01's. Probably because the add-on feet make it taller, the legs are chunkier, and the shoulders are bigger. Overall it looks a little less slender. Compared to the GP01, which sparked debate for being too slim, this one actually shows more stable proportions. The big feet and chunky legs definitely play a big part in that!
Since the internal frame and exterior structure are the same as the GP01's, MG GP01 Reviewplease refer to that as well.. Articulation is about the same, though the Full Burnern's armor structure means the knees bend just a tiny bit less. Interestingly, even though they share a similar joint structure, the Full Burnern's leg joints are a bit stiffer than the GP01's. Not stiff enough to call them rock-solid, but compared to the GP01's loose legs, they hold poses much better. Something quietly improved there. However, the grip strength is still terrible. It's way too hard to get it to hold the rifle.. OTL
The Full Burnern's distinctive Core Fighter and verniers are well represented, and the shoulder and chest verniers can be both fully open and stowed as per the design specs. The shoulders use a simple switch mechanism that links all 3 verniers simultaneously for opening and closing, while the chest section can be switched between extended and stowed by swapping out the yellow duct and Core Fighter vernier parts.
It feels like it loses a bit of that compact, intricate feel compared to the GP01, but the Full Burnern is still a great kit that combines the early developer spirit with some nicely improved engineering. The sheer number of tiny parts relative to the kit's size can be a bit overwhelming, but you can appreciate it as the developers' effort to reproduce everything as precisely as possible ^^
Thanks to the bigger, more voluminous build and especially the slightly sturdier joints compared to the GP01, the perceived quality feels higher than the GP01. The GP01 and GP01FB seem like a variation kit pair, yet the feel after building them is quite different... so if you love the Zephyranthes, don't agonize over which one to build — you'll need both to feel truly satisfied! :-)
