Gundam Astray Noir

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the Gundam Astray Noir, a Club G limited edition released alongside the MG Gundam Astray Red. It's a unit from the Astray-B series, a SEED side story, and as you can see, it's basically the standard Astray done up in black with the Noir Striker from the Strike Noir added to the back. The main body is largely identical to the existing MG Astray, with only the head antenna and the backpack connection point on the back changed.

Since it's fundamentally a kit built by recombining existing kits, there's nothing structurally groundbreaking about it — but pairing the excellent, rock-solid MG Astray body with the cool Noir Striker actually makes for a pretty sharp-looking kit. I'll admit I was a bit skeptical at first, thinking "really, another recycled kit?"... but once I actually built it, it's surprisingly stable and looks quite stylish. ^^

It also comes with various weapons from the existing MG Strike Noir, letting you set up all kinds of action poses. And the Sword Rifle — a unique new weapon that combines the existing beam rifle shorty with a Gerbera Straight blade — adds a nice fresh touch to the kit.

Anyway, it's a unit from a side story that doesn't have the highest profile, and the limited edition has more of a "recycled kit" vibe than anything truly new... but setting all that aside, the kit's style and quality are excellent. Even if you're not a fan of the Astray-B series specifically, if you have a soft spot for Astray-type kits or just like the look of it, this is a solid limited edition that should leave you very satisfied. :-)
