MG LM312V04(B-part) + SD-VB03A

Core Booster Ver.Ka

Kit Review

Straight build
+ Panel lining + Decals

Ever since the MG V Gundam was released, a V-Dash variation was widely anticipated — and sure enough, the V-Dash Gundam was released alongside the Core Booster Ver.Ka as a separate purchase. It's a nice touch for people who already own the V Gundam, since they can just pick up the Core Booster Ver.Ka on its own. Not a bad deal at all. :-)

This kit consists of the Core Booster Ver.Ka for the V Gundam along with a set of various weapons — no fewer than 7 additional weapons are included. On top of the newly designed Core Booster parts, it also comes with the same two Core Fighter variants from the original V Gundam kit, so you can display the Core Booster and Core Fighters at the same time. A plain stand of the type that used to come with older HG kits is also included for display purposes — notably, this stand is left out of the MG V-Dash Gundam combo kit and is only found in the Core Booster Ver.Ka kit.

First off, the added Core Booster parts are faithfully reproduced to MG standards — clean transformation gimmicks, solid color separation, and plenty of seals and decals as befitting a Ver.Ka. The transformation gimmick for mounting it on the V Gundam's back works effectively enough, but the ball-jointed wings feel a little loose. They're not floppy by any means, but the slightest touch can throw the shape off a bit.

Honestly, while building this kit you might find the generous weapon selection even more exciting than the Core Booster itself. The beam smart gun and Gatling gun are both stylish and have their own well-executed opening/closing gimmicks, very much in keeping with MG quality. Beyond those, new weapons like the beam cannon, disposable missiles, missile pod, and beam Jabelin are also included, plus an extra beam rifle identical to the one in the V Gundam kit.

Bottom line — this kit is aimed at existing MG V Gundam owners. If you don't have the V Gundam yet, just go ahead and pick up the MG V-Dash Gundam, which bundles everything in this kit (minus the stand) together. The quality is clean and thoroughly MG-worthy, and the price of ¥2200 is pretty reasonable given the volume of content and parts count — definitely worth a thumbs up. :-)
