Following the standard type, the Commander Type has also gotten the MG treatment. Since lore-wise it's essentially the same unit with only the wings and armaments swapped out, most of the parts including the main body are identical to the standard type — so for details on the transformation gimmick, frame, and other core features, MG ReZEL standard type reviewplease refer to that.

The HGUC ReZEL standard and Commander Types had slightly different molded colors, but the MG versions come out with completely identical molded colors, which makes them feel even less distinct from each other. It would've been nice to have at least some variation — a bit of a head-scratcher, honestly..

The quality of the updated wings and mega beam launcher is absolutely up to MG standards, with excellent color separation and solid gimmick articulation. In particular, it's a real relief that they built in multiple locking points on the mega beam launcher's connection parts, given its size and weight. Considering the launcher needs to be locked in at various angles and positions, things would've gotten pretty frustrating without those locking points.

Just like the standard type, the Commander Type looks really sharp and well-proportioned in MS mode.. but it's a kit that'll have you cursing once you try to transform it into Waverider mode. (ㅡ,.ㅡ) The hip joints that pop out and refuse to stay put are honestly... worse than Zeta 1.0, I'd say. To get the transformation to work, you basically have to pull off the arms, legs, and everything else, then repeatedly fail while trying to lock in just the hip connection parts and the rear armor. It does eventually hold once you somehow muscle through it... ;;; But man, the process itself is just... ㅡ_ㅡ

Unlike the standard type, the massive mega beam launcher and wings mean the Waverider's volume is in a completely different league — roughly 3 times the footprint? It's so long and large that displaying and storing it is a real challenge, but the sheer presence it has is pretty impressive.

Also, the larger backpack and armaments compared to the standard type put a bit of strain on the ankle joints. The standard type was fine, but with the added weight, there's a tendency for it to keep tipping forward when the mega beam launcher is extended far out front. That said, the launcher itself can act as a stand, so it doesn't actually fall over.

Overall, the proportions and detail in MS mode are excellent, and the build quality is solid too, making it a pretty worthwhile kit to put together. It's just a shame that all that goodwill gets wiped out the moment you try to transform it. If you're not particularly into the transformation process, I'd recommend just leaving it in MS mode and enjoying it that way. :-)
